Recently, Dr. Vu Ngoc Bao, a program manager of FHI, has seen an article with the title ‘Male sexuality in Vietnam: the case of male-to-male sex’, published by Sexual Health, a reputable magazine in the field of sexual health. Dr Bao is known as an experienced researcher in sexual health, MSM and HIV/AIDS prevention. Bao has participated in training courses oto improve his skills in research writing and presentation, organized by Encourages project – Consultation of Investment in Health Promotion (CIHP). On the occasion that he published his article, we had a chance to talk with Bao about the event:
Interviewer: Congratulation! What do you think when your article is published in such a reputable magazine?
I think It is a great reward for each author. As others, I was very glad, the event encourages me so much and brings me more experiences in writing research articles.
Interviewer: Can you tell us more about the process of writing this article?
As other researchers, I also want to disseminate my researches broadly. However, to achieve the result our researches have to meet the requirements of science and morality. The ways from research reports to research articles which are potentially published in international magazines are different between individual researchers with their motivations and experiences. I am so lucky when approaching editors of the magazine “Culture, Health & Sexuality”, who shared me precious experiences and motivations of writing research articles through training courses in the scope of ENCOURAGES project.
I think that it is really important to choose a magazine to publish our articles. This depends on the conformity between the topics and the concerns of the magazines. I choose The Sexual Health because it is an interdisciplinary magazine on sexual health with special attentions to the issue in Pacific –Asia and has published articles based on qualitative researches.
Interviewer: All information you have shared will really motivate other researchers. Do you want to give any recommendations for young researchers?
I desire other researchers could reach the goal of disseminating their researches in international scope. Vietnamese researchers contribute themselves with researches about Vietnam. This is the expectation of almost international magazines.
PV: Thank you!
